Holiday Ball
It was a festive occasion as 33 Grand Haven Croquet Club members, dressed in holiday theme regalia played under almost perfect conditions, on the Court at Creekside.
The event was held on Saturday morning, December 6th with George Betz in charge. It supplemented our evening Holiday social, held later the same day, and which was also well attended with 60 or more present.
The format for the games was Golf Croquet with partner and opponent pairings set up based on date of registration. Winners proceeded to the next level until the final foursome had a playoff to see which team won the “valuable prizes”. Pairs who lost played on, just to enjoy the games and the camaraderie. While, at some times, this could seem a bit confusing, everyone displayed good sportsmanship and a good time was had by all.
The winners were Tony Dos Santos and Vikki Lindsey. Congratulations to both.
As with previous theme events, the best and most innovative costumes were chosen and this time it was to a couple from our last Beginner’s Class, John and Donna Manuck who came as toy soldiers inspired by the Nutcracker and won first prize in the outfit division.
Our special events are primarily social and designed, not only for fun and social activity but also to provide an opportunity for new and old members to meet and/or reacquaint. They often involve a theme with some type of dress that deviates from the normal all white dress. Refreshments are served and prizes awarded at all events.
Holiday Party
The Saturday evening event was held at the beautiful and welcoming home of Ginny Legge. The tree glittered with all gold ornaments and the holiday food tables were more than abundant with savory contributions from the membership.
There were over 60 people present and the sense of friendship and good will prevailed, as people filled the lanai and the kitchen while they chatted over their plates of food. The President welcomed the eight new members as the older members gathered them in to the fold. The mood was festive and our Social Director Yvonne Croizer, in her usual efficient way, provided us all with another happy occasion.
